Children’s Book Review: Gossie Plays Hide and Seek

Dunrea, Olivier. Gossie Plays Hide and Seek. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2010. 16 pages.  ISBN-13: 978-0-547-24296-5

What’s the story?

This is an interactive board book about Gossie and her friends in a game of hide and seek.

This charming installment in the award winning “Gossie and Friends” series is an interactive board book certain to delight the baby through preschool child. Ollie is missing, so Gossie and her friends have to look for him. The interactive features allow children to pull tabs to see if Ollie is in the barn, or under the hens. They look for him in the birdbath and in the grass which has a scratch and sniff feature. Children will have fun pulling tabs, lifting flaps, and spinning wheels to check to see if Ollie is nearby. The most interesting interactive feature is a board game at the back of the book which contains four game pieces with pictures of Ollie who looks slightly different in each picture. It’s a very easy game to play, so even the youngest of children can play the game and win. The book is sturdy and thick, so it will survive being in the hands of a baby.
